MELIS Nicola


Nicola Melis is a specialist in Near Eastern and Ottoman history, received his PhD at the University of Cagliari (Italy) in 2000.  Since the 1st of May 2006 he has taught at  the University of Cagliari. He is currently a full time researcher at the Department of Social Sciences. Dr. Melis's current research deals with the position of minorities in the Near East and Anatolia, the concept of jihad in Islamic jurisprudence in the Ottoman age and Luso-Ottoman relations in the XVI-XVII centuries. He has shared his ongoing work at numerous international conferences, and has authored several recent articles on the subjects, such as "Osmanlı Aracılarının Doğudaki Hukuki Statüsü, 16. Yüzyıl;" "Some remarks on the idea of a Suez canal in the 16th century".
