GORI Alessandro

Alessandro Gori (alessandro.gori@unifi.it) is Associate professor of Arabic language and literature of the Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies at the University of Copenhagen.. His main research areas include: Islamic literary traditions in the Horn of Africa; modern and classical Arabic literature; Islamic manuscripts; Islamic heritage in Africa.
Previously he has been full-time researcher at the University of Florence where he taught Islamic Studies and Arabic Language and Literature. “AG heads as Principal Investigator the five year project IslHornAfr: Islam in the Horn of Africa, A Comparative Literary Approach (http://www.islhornafr.eu) funded by the European Research Council (Advanced Grant 322849)”. Gori has contributed in his field of research with several publications among which Studi sulla letteratura agiografica islamica somala in lingua araba, Dipartimento di Linguistica, Firenze, 2003; Contatti culturali nell’Oceano Indiano nel Mar Rosso e processi di islamizzazione in Etiopia e Somalia, Cafoscarina, Venezia, 2006; “Italy in the Horn of Africa and the Ethiopian Islamic literary tradition: L.
